About pdfkomprimieren.com

pdfkomprimieren.com offers free PDF tools, calculators and guides in German and 17 other languages. Here you can find out how the project is run, what it is for, how we test results and which contact is intended for errors and suggestions.

What pdfkomprimieren.com is for

An application is finished, but the PDF doesn't fit in the upload field. A scan is legible but too large for email. Or several documents need to be combined into one file in the right order. We are building pdfkomprimieren.com for tasks like these. Our aim is that you can find the right tool, understand its result and check the finished file yourself.

  • The PDF tools compress a PDF, try to reach a target size, merge files, split them, remove or rotate pages, and convert images to PDF or PDF pages to images. They also turn a PDF with text into an editable Word file, recognize text in scanned PDFs using text recognition, and convert simple Word files to PDF.
  • The calculators help with file units, print resolution, compression ratio, email attachment size and upload time, and with comparing files against your own upload requirements.
  • The PDF guides explain decisions around devices, legibility, file size and documents for specific recipients.

A calculator answers a different question than an editing tool. If you calculate whether your documents fit within a limit, that does not make them smaller. And if you compress a PDF, the recipient still decides whether its content and format meet their requirements. We keep these tasks separate in the interface and in the guides so that your next step stays clear.

Where your file is processed

The file you select is processed in the browser on your device. For this to work, the site loads program components, fonts and, for text recognition, language data from pdfkomprimieren.com. There is no server to which your PDF is uploaded for processing. A result is only saved when you download it.

You can find more about this under Security. How it works shows how you get from selecting a file to the saved result.

Who is behind the service

Behind pdfkomprimieren.com is PDF KOMPRIMIEREN, a project based in Germany. The pdfkomprimieren.com team develops and maintains the tools, calculators and guides.

The service is free for everyone and is intended to be funded by advertising. You can find out in the privacy policy whether any services are used for advertising or statistics, and which ones.

The legal notice, not this project description, is authoritative for the legal provider information. The feedback section below states which contact address is intended for questions, errors and suggestions.

How we test results

For the PDF tools, we process our own test files, save the result and open it again. We check page count, order and legible rendering, among other things. We test the calculators with calculation examples whose results are known, paying attention to units, limit values and incorrect input.

Our most recent tests, in October 2026, ran in Firefox and with WebKit, the engine Safari is based on. For text recognition, we also tested with a real scan in German. Earlier tests ran in Chromium with desktop and narrow smartphone views. We have not yet tested on real smartphones or in Safari itself.

We also check whether a tool rejects files that it cannot reliably convert. In our tests, a multi-column official PDF and a Word template from a public authority with older, unsupported form fields were rejected as unsupported.

The tests show how the tools behave with the files we tested. They are not a promise that every file, every device or every recipient requirement will work. So always check your result yourself before passing it on. File limits describes which files the tools accept and where the conversions reach their limits.

How tools and guides stay up to date

Tools, notes on file limits and guides are interconnected. When one of them changes, the others should not become outdated. That is why we proceed as follows when making changes:

  1. When a tool changes, we review the tool itself, the information on its limits and the guides that mention it together.
  2. We repeat the tests and reopen the saved results.
  3. We record the change with its date in the changelog.

Report errors or suggestions

The address support@pdfkomprimieren.com is intended for questions, errors and suggestions. Use it, for example, if a tool doesn't do what you expect or a guide doesn't help.

Note on the current status: in this preview, it has not yet been confirmed that messages to this address are received. You can find the current status of the contact channels and a short checklist for describing errors under Contact.

Helpful feedback includes:

  • the task you wanted to complete,
  • the step at which you got stuck,
  • the tool you used or the page affected,
  • your browser and your device.

Please do not attach confidential documents. Instead, describe the problem in words or use a test file without personal data.
